DOMINANT NOSTRIL BREATHING

Dominant nostril Breathing

At any time when you breathe you will notice that one nostril exhales air more forcefully than the other. This is called the dominant nostril.

If it is the right nostril it is known as the sun channel and if it is the left  it is known as the moon channel.

If the air comes out evenly through both nostrils then energy is residing in the central channel of the spine.

Breath from the left nostril is yin, feminine and is cooling, passive in nature. While the breath that flows from the right nostril is yang, masculine, aggressive and action oriented.

According to ancient sources that say that if you can organise your breathing you can organise your life.

For example you are going to your boss asking for a raise.  You notice that your dominant nostril is the

Right one. Try to position yourself in such a way that your boss stands or sit to your right.  You have a better chance of getting your raise that way.

Yoga texts say that if one is successful in gaining control over the change of breath from one nostril to the other and can bring about this change voluntarily without resorting to any aid eg putting a wad of cotton in a nostril to block its flow then one is said to be free from destiny and is in control of one’s life.
