HINDU SADHAKA cleanse inside of your body with a cotton cloth

A strip of wet cotton cloth 3’’ and fifteen hands in length is stoutly swallowed and taken out as instructed by the guru. This is known as Dhaulagiri – Hatha yoga Pradipika 2-24

Dhauti is divided into four parts.  According to the gherand samhita they are called internal dhauti. This practice I now show you is the internal  vastra   dhauti.  Vastra means cloth   This practice should only be done under the strict guidance of a guru.

The cloth should be of finely woven cotton which is clean and boiled. And new.  No synthetic material is tolerated. The cloth should be neatly trimmed so no frayed edges may get caught inside your body. It should be no wider than 3’’ or it can fold over as it goes down your gut. And should be at least one metre and no more than  a metre and a half.

TECHNIQUE

Boil  the cloth well so as to soften it.  Keep it in a container of warm water while you are practicing the abdominal exercises. Then squat with your heels on the floor then Relax the body keep the cloth spread and do not fold it. Spread one end over the tongue and start swallowing it. If it starts to catch in the throat and you have difficulty of it going down you may take a sip of warm water to help it go down the throat.  Do not drink a lot of water as you want the stomach to be fairly empty so as to accommodate the cloth. The cloth tends to stick to the lowest point of the throat, do keep swallowing and resist the impulse to vomit or retch. Once the cloth passes down a little further than the oesophagus the problem will end.  When two thirds of the cloth are swallowed leave the end hanging out of the mouth then stand up to do more exercises. The cloth can remain 5-20minutes and not longer.

You  can do the abdominal contraction, rolling or the fire breath.

Sit again in the squatting position and remove the cloth.

The cloth will be covered with mucus so do not reuse it
